Electrical Engineer


SUMMARY: The Electrical Engineer will support the NPI (New Product Introduction) division in the design and development of cutting-edge technology, new products, and processes for OEMs & startups. Required knowledge of Engineering Design processes, including; Generate Specifications, Power Analysis, Component sizing, PLC Programming, HMI Programing, evaluation and specify electrical equipment for motion applications, measurement (contact & non-contact), sensing and safety systems, troubleshooting and debug in development and production electro-mechanical equipment.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • Hardware Design for Industrial Controls (power analysis, component selection, panel design)
  • Schematics
  • Programming: PLC – Ladder Logic (Rockwell, Omron etc.)Hands-on skills – Prototype, test, debug.
  • Physics based approach to problem solving
  • Problem solving / critical thinking.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to design, manage and execute project(s) adhering to customer specifications within defined cost, quality and delivery parameters.
  • Assist in creating specifications, critical parameters and statement of work.
  • Apply knowledge in electrical power transmission, controls systems, programing, wiring/panel design, automation for design and development.
  • Work with and support cross-disciplinary teams to solve design, manufacturing and process problems.
  • Utilize problem solving and creative thinking skills to develop solutions and implement design options with customers, suppliers and manufacturing, while working collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Hands on: assembly / testing support to support prototyping and process development.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Component selection and sizing for electrical systems i.e. relays, circuit breakers, wire sizing, power (voltage/current) requirements.
  • Experienced in technical communication internally and externally; email, technical write-up, presentation, meetings.
  • MS Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Engineering Design: 2D CAD (Autocad), FMEA techniques, Analysis (Power, timing), DFMA.
  • Motion Control; Stepper, Servo, AC/DC motors, multi-axis robots.
  • Process Control: PID, PWM control
  • Machine Vision
  • Industrial Networking; e.g. Modbus, Ethernet/IP
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems and software such as; PLC ladder logic (Omron, Rockwell).
  • Knowledge of text based languages; C, Java, Python a plus.
  • Knowledge of assembly best practices for industrial controls, working knowledge of NEC code for electrical system design.
  • Minimum education: BSEE of BSEET – 4 YEAR Electrical Engineering / Engineering Technology Degree

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • 3-5 years Engineering Design or problem solving with commercial or industrial equipment/processes.
  • 1-2 years PLC or programming industrial, automation or process control.
  • Experience working with low (12vdc) to high (480vac) voltage industrial or commercial equipment.
